Islam and Orthodoxy

The State Commission for Religious Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic (SCRA KR) holds the International Conference “Orthodoxy and Islam - Religions of Peace” on 21 November 2019 in Bishkek. 

The purpose of the conference is to analyze historical processes and the current situation in the interaction between Islam and Orthodox Christianity in the post-Soviet space, as well as to discuss common spiritual and cultural values of the two religions, their place and role in building peace and harmony, and the development of integration processes in the Eurasian area.

 “The interaction between Islam and Orthodoxy in our region which has a century and a half history is bearing fruit today. Close cooperation not only in the field of religion, but also in the field of culture, mutual study of languages, traditions, science and education has become the basis of today’s bilateral relations and harmony”, - commented Zaiyrbek Ergeshov, Director of the SCRA KR.

This conference is a continuation of the cycle of the I and II International Scientific and Practical Conference “Islam in a Modern Secular State” held in 2017 and 2018 under the auspices of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic. 

The conference is attended by representatives of authorized state bodies, religious organizations, academic and expert communities on religious issues, prevention of radicalism and extremism from Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia.

This international conference is jointly organized with the Russian Federation and supported by the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek.
