Today, on 20 November 2019, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov met with Zaiyrbek Ergeshov, Director of the State Commission for Religious Affairs (SCRA KR).
The head of state noted the importance of maintaining and strengthening the unity and diversity of cultures of the people of Kyrgyzstan. He emphasized the special role of spirituality in the development of the individual, society and the state as a whole.
During the meeting they discussed issues on improving interfaith dialogue in the regions, increasing religious literacy of the country's population. Issues of strengthening interfaith harmony and tolerance in society, prevention of radicalism and extremism were also discussed.
Zaiyrbek Ergeshov, Director of the SCRA KR, provided information on preparations for the International Conference “Islam and Orthodoxy - Religions of Peace” which will be held on 21 November 2019 in Bishkek.
The meeting was attended by Mufti Maksat azhy Toktomushev, head of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan, and Bishop Daniil, head of the Bishkek’s and Kyrgyzstan’s Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.
